Black, White, Red and cables in the new timer switch, but only two wires in the black box. Which wires go where?
I am the replacement of a light switch with a new Utilitech wall switch timer. The switch has black, white, red, green and cables. However, the switch that I am replacing only two black wires (and land). The instruction "pamphlet" is useless … It says that every strand of wire in their respective timer color cable box – do not have. How this thread? Is it fair to ignore the red wire on the switch?
Connect the black wire on the timer for that the black wire coming from the fuse box. Connect the red wire to the black wire of others go to the light. The land is green and white is neutral. If there is no green and white cable separately arriving at the switch, just connect the two together with the ground. You really should have updated wiring so it is a separate ground and neutral.
