Is it true that all acoustic guitars get better with age, even cheap ones?
(that don’t have solid spruce tops and are under $300?)
Not necessarily. Humidity and temperature can have an influence on warping. Also, in order for a guitar to improve with age, it needs to be payed…and OFTEN! If it was not a decent guitar to begin with, it is not going to turn into a Taylor after a few years. Whoever told you that didn’t know what they were talking about.
To say that ALL acoustic guitars get better with age is just too broad & absolute a statement to be true. Some acoustic guitars ruin with age. I used to have a Martin 12-string guitar. VERY expensive! After 7 years the neck was so warped that it could not be tuned properly anymore.
Chances are, if it is a cheap guitar to begin with, then what you will have in the end is a much older cheap guitar.
