Would a red flag come up for you, if you met a man or a women who was married twice before?
The person is over 50, and both of theirs spouses are living. They have 4 children.The youngest child is 9
That depends. Are you talking about someone who is in their 20s or 30s who has already been divorced twice (or more)? Or are you talking about someone in their 50s or 60s who was divorced once and then the second spouse died?
There are all sorts of combinations. For me, it depends on how old the person is and what the circumstances were. Two divorces should always raise a red flag, though. That should tell you that this person either doesn’t have a clue about how to pick a marriage partner, or they don’t have the ability to make a marriage work.
And don’t ever take the person’s word for why their 2 divorces happened. They’ll tell you what they think you want to hear, and they’ll tell it to make it sound like they weren’t the “bad guy”. You need to hear from their ex-spouses and lots of people who knew them during these marriages to get a better idea of what really happened.
I would never consider getting into a long-term relationship with someone who had been divorced twice, without that person going through some intensive counseling to find out what about themselves was responsible for their marriages failing. I would also insist on couples counseling to make certain the both of us were dealing with the baggage from the past and ready to prepare for a future together.
