The majority of guitars are made with either rosewood or maple fingerboards. Rosewood is considered favorable because it adds warmth and clarity to the tone (that “rock and roll” sound) and is also very durable and has a very smooth feel
Maple is also used quite often (most fender guitars use maple) as it is a strong and stable wood and will also give the guitar a brighter tone
Many other less common (less common = more expensive) woods are used, each bringing their own unique characteristics and tone

Overall though i would be more worried about what kind of wood the body of the guitar is made of, as this is the key to what the guitar will sound like.
