Can you play a melody plays the full major chord for each note?
For example, if I played the string (A, B, C, D, etc.) that matches the name of the note in a melodic line that sounds like the melody?
Yes, you may work for some notes, but will not always be the case. Melodies are often not strictly in major chords – even older songs written in minor chords tones to fill the chord structure. Furthermore, the notes are found in the different chords, and not just the tonic chord. For example, C is in fact in C major (the tonic chord), but also in C minor, A minor, F major, F minor, D7, and more. melody lines often are played on one string – each individual note of the melody has to fit on the line of support. Are called non-chord tones, and are fairly common. Most popular songs are based on only three chords, but obviously the singer sing more than 3 letters!
